The Lisbon Derby is the name given for the clashes between Benfica and Sporting. This for sure one of the biggest rivalries in the country, and maybe even the biggest one. This rivalry started in 1907 when 8 players of Benfica moved to Sporting because they had more financial resources and more conditions. As the years passed by, this rivalry started to become more and more intense also due to the proximity of both clubs. Traditionally, Benfica is known for being the people`s club that started very poor and Sporting the club of the more wealthy people.
Both clubs have good firms that always make nice shows when this Derby happens. On the Benfica side we have No Name Boys and Diabos Vermelhos and on the Sporting side we have Juve Leo, DUXXI, Torcida Verde and Brigada. Riots between these groups are normal and had alreadyb resulted in the death of 2 people (both from Sporting side).
In this Derby, we can always see a lot of passion, a very intense atmosphere, very good support, great tifos and choreos and nice pyro.
