Benfica and Fenerbahce kick start their competitive season with a high profile fixture in the third round of Champions League qualifiers.
The Portuguese giants often manage to make to the group stage without having to go through the qualifiers. The last time they have to do this was in 2011 and it was a successful campaign.
However, Benfica had a forgettable group stage appearance last time as they lost all six games managing to score just once.
Meantime, Fenerbahce are looking for their first group stage appearance since 2008/09 season. They were here five times since and often drawn against the toughest of opponents.
They played likes of Monaco, Arsenal, Shakhtar Donetsk and Spartak Moscow during the period and it is not a surprise that they failed to get through.
Benfica vs Fenerbahce Head-to-head
The teams met once before, in the Europa League qualifiers of 2012/13 season.
Benfica knocked Fener out back then with a 3-1 win at home in the second leg after losing 1-0 at Turkey.

Tuesday will be the first competitive match of the season for both teams. Either sides have had troubles winning matches in the pre-season, at least Benfica’s games were against high profile opponents as they were in the International Champions Cup.
The big miss for Fenerbahce will be André Ayew on loan from relegated English Premier League Swansea City. The Ghana international is nursing a niggle and is fighting against time for match fitness.
However, this is advantage home side since the Turkish giants managed just 3 wins from 14 qualifying games since their last group stage appearance in 2008/09 season.
