Benfica was founded in 1904 and is the most sucessful club in Portugal. This club is situated in Lisbon and his biggest rivals are Sporting Lisbon and Porto.
Benfica´s stadium has the capacity for 65000 peolpe and his name is “Estádio da Luz”.However, this stadium is also known for “Stadium of Light Hell” (in portuguese “Inferno da Luz”) because of the very hot and tense atmosphere that Benfica supporters make when their team plays.
Currently, there are two ultra groups at Benfica: No Name Boys (ИИ) and the Diabos Vermelhos (in english “Red DevilIs”).
No Name Boys were founded in 1992 from a revolution in the Red Devils and currently they are the biggest ultra group in Benfica. They stay in the south of the stadium (Topo Sul).
This group also has a very strong friendship with Torcida Split. It started in 1994 during the Croatian war when No Name Boys showed a message saying “Freedom for Croatia” and few time later they played in Croatia against Hajduk Split, for Champions League. In the returning trip to Portugal 3 members of No Name Boys died in a car crash (Gullit, Rita and Tino), including the leader of the group (Gullit). This was a very big loss to the group but they still managed to stay strong and united thanks to their strong mentality even after the death of their leader. In the second game, Torcida Split came to Portugal and inside the stadium of Benfica came to the south of the stadium (where No Name Boys used to stay) and put there flowers in honor of Gullit, Rita and Tino.It was the beginning of a very strong friendship between (probably) the best ultra groups from Portugal and from Croatia.
No Name Boys are also known for their amazing vocal support and for using a lot of pyro (something that is not very in common to see in Portugal these days due to the big repression).
However, nowadays No Name Boys suffer a big repression from the Portuguese authorities because they remain “illegal”.
If you want to know and to understand more about this situation you will have to understand what´s happening in the portuguese ultras reality.
Since 2007 that all the ultra groups in Portugal are forced to “legalize” themselves.Basically, this means that all ultra groups are forced by the police and by the governement to give the ID, the adress and photos of their members to police and in the away games to inform police of theirs displacements. This laws were made by portuguese governement to control the ultra groups. This is something similar to what is happening in Morrocos and in Hungary. However, in Portugal if the ultras don´t agree with this stupid laws, they can´t bring banners and flags with the symbol of their group, they can´t make choreos and tifos and they can´t even take drums and megaphones to stadium. It´s like they don´t exist.
No Name Boys (and also Red Devils) are some of the only groups in Portugal that still resist to system (for example, the ultras of Sporting Lisbon and Porto have agreed with this laws) and because of that, they suffer a very big repression from portuguese authorities. However, in spite of being very hard, sometimes No Name Boys still manage to make banners with their symbol or tifos and to introduce them in the stadium (you can watch that on the video).
However, No Name Boys have a unique mentality in Portugal. They don´t have any official page on social networks, they don´t give interviews to anyone and the media and the police know almost anything about the group and their members.
They are also against any type of way to earn money with the group, such as selling scarves, jackets etc which is (unfortunately) a sad reality in Portugal. Some groups act more like companies rather than ultra groups, what contribute to the fortune of their leaders.
The main motto of No Name Boys is “Always Present” but they also have some other mottos such as “No Name No Net”, “No Name No Face”, “We don´t exist” ,“ We are Proudly illegal”, “We don´t sell ourselves” , “We don´t surrender to the system” and “We don´t fear anyone”.
No Name Boys are probably the best ultra groups in Portugal due to their very strong mentality, to their great vocal support and to their pyro shows.
Red Devils were founded in 1982 and although they used to be a big group in the 80s, since No Name Boys were born they are a small group but with a great mentality. They are also known for making nice choreos (when they manage to do it, because they are also “illegal”) and for using a lot of pyro. They stay in the north of the stadium (curva norte).
Thei motto is “To much loyal to give up”.
